Anawim Supportive Services Holiday Update

On December 16th, Anawim hosted a holiday celebration for our tenants. Iowa Stage Theatre Company generously provided tickets for our tenatns to attend a matinee of their current production, "A Christmas Carol", so we thought it would be fun to have a Victorian themed party! At the "Dickens Christmas", party guests could have pictures taken in front of a Christmas tree and fireplace, make gingerbread houses, create old-fashioned hliday cards and ornaments, enjoy cookies and hot chocolate (with toppings of their choice), and pick out books to take home from oru book fair! Guests could also visit with community partners from Primary Health Care, Goodwill, and Evelyn K. Davis Center to get information about helpful programs and resources in the community. Party attendees were treated to a light lunch, and transportation to and from the theatre.

On December 14th, we were visited by volunteers from Housby. They delivered beautifully wrapped gifts and gift cards that were purchases with over $1100 raised by Housby employees for our families in need.

On Sunday December 17th, volunteers from Altoona's Kids Cafe made a visit to Anawim Housing residents at The Crest and Forest & Fields townhomes on Hubbell Avenue where they delivered toys and information about their summer lunch and activity program. The children were happy, not just to recieve a gift, but to see the familiar faces from last summer. The hallways were full of laughter and hugs! New residents also had the chance to learn about this wonderful summer opportunity and how their children can take part.

On December 18th, Anawim Housing attended the Slumberland Holiday Beds for Kids Program event, through the 40 Winks Foundation. Slumberland provided breakfast and a presentation before the Knights of Columbus delivered brand new beds to Anawim families whose children did not have one.
