Anawim Housing has had some extra help over the past several months thanks to Marina Bireley, our student intern from Drake University! Marina shared a little about herself and how she became involved with Anawim:
"My name is Marina Bireley, and I am thrilled to be serving as an intern for Anawim throughout this school year. I'm a first-year student at Drake University, and I am majoring in Actuarial Science. I'm from Morgan Hill, California, a town about an hour's drive south of San Francisco. Some of my favorite things to do are make friendship bracelets, dye my hair blue, play Tetris, and take naps.
My internship is part of a service learning program at Drake called the Engaged Citizen Corps. There are nine of us in the program, and we've each been partnered with a different nonprofit for the duration of the school year. We all live on the same floor and take two classes together - a first-year seminar called "The Common Good" and an English class/writing seminar focused on "Writing as Service". We spend a lot of time together, so we've become very close very quickly; I have this program to thank for meeting some of my best friends. I'm so excited to work with Anawim this year and be able to see first-hand the difference our work makes in people's lives."
Marina will be finishing out the 2016-2017 school year as an intern with Anawim. Thank you Marina!
