Anawim Housing and Des Moines non-profit The Beacon have entered into a partnership to maximize expertise and capacity for serving individuals with substance use disorders. The result is the Full Circle Recovery Community Center (Full Circle RCC): an independent, non-profit organization led and governed by representatives of local communities in recovery. Full Circle RCC will support expanding pathways to recovery for people who use substances and will function as a recovery resource for the local community. Utilizing peer-based recovery support services, Full Circle RCC will utilize evidenced based practices, public education and policy advocacy to achieve its mission. Full Circle Recovery Community Center is not a treatment center. It offers emotional, informational and practical supports for individuals and families who are affected by substance misuse. Full Circle RCC operates in three locations across Iowa: Des Moines, Council Bluffs, and Sioux City.
The Peer Support Specialist will function as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills, and serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for clients served at Full Circle Recovery Community Center. The Peer Support Specialist will perform a wide range of tasks to assist peers of all ages, from young adult to elderly, in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process. This position will utilize the framework of The National Standards of Best Practices for Recovery Community Organizations — including harm reduction, motivational interviewing, stage matched interventions, and person-centered practices. The Peer Support Specialist will facilitate peer-based connections to services that support pathways to recovery, relapse prevention, and connections to community. They will facilitate recovery coaching, staff the center during open hours which may include one or two evenings per week and participate in volunteer recruitment and training.
