Overview
While emergency shelters and transitional housing programs have long been available for the poor and homeless, they were never intended to provide the long-term services, support and financial assistance required to help working families lay down roots, stay together, stabilize and succeed.
Anawim Housing was founded in 1987 “to provide safe, affordable housing which assists in the stabilization of low-income families and the revitalization of Des Moines metropolitan neighborhoods.”
To qualify for Anawim Housing*, an applicant must satisfy the following MINIMUM annual income requirements:
- $12,000 for an Efficiency unit
- $13,000 for a Two-Bedroom unit
- $16,000 for a Three-Bedroom unit
- $13,000 for a One-Bedroom Duplex
- $17,000 for a Two-Bedroom Duplex
- $19,000 for a Three-Bedroom Duplex
- $21,000 for a Three-Bedroom Single Family Home
- $21,000 for a Four- or Five-Bedroom Duplex
Income MAY NOT EXCEED 60% of the Median Income for the Des Moines area and, in some cases, may not exceed 40% of Median Income, based on Federal HUD guidelines.
